候補は4つあります。
document、material、handout、presentation。
この4語は言い換えではありません。
英英辞典は、この4語を「1枚の紙か、中身の情報か」で書き分けています。

先に結論を書きます。
- 添付ファイルは document です。Oxford の語義は an official paper, book or electronic file that gives information about something。電子ファイルが語義に入っています
- ⛔ material の第1語義は布です。Longman は cloth used for making clothes, curtains etc を第1語義に置いています
- ⛔ handout の第1語義は施し物です。Oxford は (sometimes disapproving) のラベルを付けています
- 配布資料の意味の handout は第2語義です。Longman は a piece of paper with information, which is given to people who are attending a lesson, meeting etc です

紙を数える語と情報を量る語
Cambridge は document に [C]＝可算のラベルを付けています。
material の情報の語義には [C or U] のラベルを付けています。
document は1枚2枚と数えられ、material は量として扱える。ラベルがそのまま性質を示しています。
辞書の第1語義がずれる
material と handout には、注意が要ります。
どちらも、辞書が第1語義に置いているのは「資料」ではないからです。

契約書や証明書のような、きちんとした書類が中心にある語です。
電子ファイルも document
Cambridge は第2語義で、コンピュータ上のファイルを挙げています。

Longman は document に S2 W2 AWL の記号を付けています。
話し言葉・書き言葉ともに頻出2000語に入り、なおかつ学術語彙リストにも載っている語だ、ということです。
資料の英語②material｜辞書が第1語義に布を置いた語
material は、語義の並びに注意が要ります。
Longman が第1語義に置いているのは布です。

情報という語義
Cambridge は、情報の意味を B1 のレベルで載せています。

Oxford の例文は building materials (= bricks, sand, glass, etc.) です。レンガと砂とガラスが並んでいます。
会議の資料を Please see the material. とだけ書くと、この語義で読まれる余地が残ります。
資料の英語③handout｜辞書が第1語義に施しを置いた語
handout も、第1語義が資料ではありません。

Longman の第1語義も同じです。

配布資料は第2語義
資料の意味は、2番目に置かれています。

その場にいる人へ配る紙、という限定が付いた語です。
会議で使えるかどうか
Longman の語義に meeting が入っているので、会議の配布資料に使えます。
Longman Business Dictionary も The Air Force gave reporters a handout listing staff locations. という例文を載せています。
ただし、その場で配らずにメールで送るファイルには合いません。3冊とも語義に「配る」動作が入っているからです。
資料の英語④presentation｜辞書が a talk と書いた語
presentation は、資料ではありません。

スライドのファイルそのものを指す語ではありません。
Oxfordは集まりと書く
Oxford は、さらに集まりの意味で定義しています。

Oxford の例文 The sales manager will give a presentation on the new products. の動詞は give です。
資料なら送る、話なら行う。
動詞で区別が付きます。
スライドを指すときの形
スライドのファイルを送るなら、資料の側の語を使います。
the slides for tomorrow’s presentation のように、話と資料を分けて書けば誤解が起きません。
Longman は presentation に S3 の記号を付けており、話し言葉でよく使われる語だと示しています。
資料の英語を、辞書のCEFRと頻度記号で並べ直す
Cambridge は語に CEFR のレベルを付け、Longman は頻度の印を付けています。

material は Longman が S1 W1 を付けた最頻出語ですが、語義が4つ以上に分かれています。
頻度が高いことと、誤解されないことは別の話です。
迷ったときの既定値
Cambridge が A2 を付け、3冊とも第1語義が書類である document が、資料の英語の既定値になります。
用途を添えるなら the attached document や the meeting documents の形にします。
資料を英語のメールで送る・頼む・説明する全文
語の違いが分かったので、そのままメールに落とします。
