deadline、due date、lead time、delivery date。

Cambridge の語義は a time or day by which something must be done、Oxford は a point in time by which something must be done。
Cambridge Business の語義は the date on which something is expected to happen, especially the date on which a sum of money is expected to be paid=お金が中心にある語です
Oxford の語義は the time between placing an order and the item being delivered。
Cambridge Business の語義は the date on which goods that have been bought will arrive at a place=到着する側の日付です
Cambridge の第一義は the date on which a woman’s baby is expected to be born。

deadline(B2)— a time or day by which something must be done

一方、Oxford の lead time には between が入っています。

lead time — the time between starting and completing a production process; the time between placing an order and the item being delivered

What is your lead time? 逆に What is the deadline?

  • deadline=Schedules & agendas(予定表・議事日程)。
  • delivery=Transferring and transporting objects(モノの移動)。
  • turnaround=同じく Transferring and transporting objects。
  • lead time=Inventing, designing and innovation(発明・設計)。

Cambridge(B2)— a time or day by which something must be done

Cambridge Business — the time or date by which something must be done

Oxford — a point in time by which something must be done

Longman — a date or time by which you have to do or complete something

a point in time =「時間のなかの一点」。

meet a deadlinefinish something by a deadline守れた・守ると約束する
miss a deadlinefail to finish something by a deadline間に合わなかった
set a deadlinedecide on a date when something must be finishedこちらが決める
extend a deadlinemake the date or time later than it was before後ろにずらす
work to a deadlinehave to finish something by a deadline締切に向けて動いている
a deadline passesthe date or time by which you must do something goes past過ぎてしまった

Cambridge Business

She was worried that they would not meet the deadline and that penalties would be imposed.

We hit delays and asked to extend the deadline.

If you miss the deadline your application cannot be considered.

We’re working to a tight deadline (= we do not have much time to finish the work).

  • a tight deadline=one that is difficult because it does not allow much time to do something(時間が足りない厳しさ)
  • a strict deadline=a time or date when something must definitely be finished(絶対に動かせない厳しさ)

Cambridge Business

a deadline of March 21/5 o’clock/next Thursday, etc.

a July/Monday/midnight deadline

Cambridge Business — the date on which something is expected to happen, especially the date on which a sum of money is expected to be paid

Oxford — the date by or on which something is expected, especially the payment of a bill or the birth of a baby

Longman Business — the date by which an amount of money must be paid, a document received etc

the date by which something has to be done or paid

They reflect on project goals, due dates, strategies, and suggested changes.

Longman

the date on which something is supposed to happen

supposed to happen =「起きることになっている」。

the date on which a woman’s baby is expected to be born

She had her baby on September 5th, ten days after her due date.

Oxford も語義の中に the birth of a baby を並べ、When’s your due date?

Longman

Fewer than five percent of women have their babies on their due date. です。

What’s your due date? 仕事で使うなら the due date for the payment のように、何の期日かを必ず添えてください。

  1. EXPECTED(B1)=expected to happen, arrive, etc. at a particular time。例=The package is due to arrive tomorrow.
  2. BECAUSE(B1)=due to something = because of something。例=A lot of her unhappiness is due to boredom.
  3. OWED(C2)=owed as a debt or as a right。例=The rent is due at the end of the month.

Cambridge Business

Applications are due by noon next Wednesday.

The tribunal is due to meet this week.

My essay’s due next Friday (= it has to be given to the teacher by then).

The report is due next Friday.

Some people think that it is more correct to use owing to to mean ‘because of’ after a verb or at the beginning of a clause, because due is an adjective. However, this use of due to is now very common and accepted as part of standard English.

Due to a supplier delay, …

Cambridge(business, specialized)— the time between the design of a product and its production, or between ordering a product and receiving it

Oxford — the time between starting and completing a production process; the time between placing an order and the item being delivered

Longman — the time that it takes to make or produce something

Longman Business(COMMERCE)— the time it takes to prepare, make, or deliver something

4つとも the time で始まり、between か it takes が続きます。

Oxford

Our normal lead time from order confirmation to dispatch is two weeks.

from A to B is + 期間。

the design of a productits productionCambridge
ordering a productreceiving itCambridge
startingcompleting a production processOxford
placing an orderthe item being deliveredOxford

It takes long lead times to propose and build new nuclear power plants.

How long does it take?

  1. COMMERCE, TRANSPORT=the date on which goods that have been bought will arrive at a place(買った品物が着く日)
  2. the date on which a new product will become available(新製品が使えるようになる日)
  3. FINANCE=the date by which an investment agreement must be finally completed(取引が完了する日)
  4. the date by which a piece of work must be completed(仕事が完成していなければならない日)

The committee has a tight deadline to work to, with a January delivery date for its report.

If you need your goods urgently, you should agree a delivery date at the point of sale and get it down in writing.

agree a delivery date =「納入日を合意する」。

Cambridge(B1)— the act of taking goods, letters, parcels, etc. to people’s houses or places of work

Oxford — the act of taking goods, letters, etc. to the people they have been sent to

Longman — the act of bringing goods, letters etc to a particular person or place, or the things that are brought

3冊とも the act of です。

the act of providing a service or supplying something to a customer

The new proposals will allow the delivery of high-speed internet access without a phone line.

  • on delivery=when it is delivered(届いた時点で)。
  • take delivery of sth=to receive goods that you have bought(買ったものを受け取る)。
  • Allow 28 days for delivery.=Oxford
  • You can expect delivery in a week to ten days.=Longman

Allow 28 days for delivery. と You can expect delivery in a week to ten days.

Cambridge — abbreviation for estimated time of arrival: the time you expect to arrive

Oxford — estimated time of arrival (the time at which an aircraft, a ship, etc. is expected to arrive) compare ETD

Longman — (estimated time of arrival) the time when a plane, ship etc is expected to arrive

  • Cambridge=What’s your ETA?
  • Cambridge Business=I’ll call you when my flight lands and give you an ETA.
  • Longman=What’s our ETA?

Cambridge(language, mathematics, science・記号は H, η)— the seventh letter of the Greek alphabet

Cambridge

Cambridge — the amount of time taken for something to happen after a vehicle, an instruction, or an order for goods arrives at a place

Oxford — the amount of time it takes to unload a ship or plane at the end of one journey and load it again for the next one

Longman — the time it takes to receive something, deal with it and send it back, especially on a plane, ship etc

Longman Business(COMMERCE)— the time between receiving an order for goods, dealing with it, and sending the goods to the customer

Longman

receive something, deal with it and send it back =「受け取って、処理して、送り返す」。

  • Longman=The average turnaround for a passport application is six working days.(申請を受けて、発行して、返す)
  • Cambridge=Turnaround time for each order is, on average, four days.(注文を受けて、処理して、出す)
  • Oxford=Budget airlines rely on very fast turnaround times.(降ろして、積んで、また飛ぶ)
  • Cambridge=We’ll have to improve the turnaround – three days is too long.

Cambridge(BIG CHANGE)— an occasion when a business, plan, or system suddenly becomes successful

Longman — a complete change from a bad situation to a good one

The CEO was responsible for the turnaround in the company’s fortunes.

Oxford は British English also turnround、Cambridge は UK usually turnround、Longman も also turnround British English と書いています。

Longman名詞として独立a limit or level at which you stop doing something
Oxford形容詞が先に出る(of trousers) made shorter by cutting off part of the legs

Meaning of cut something off in English です。

Oxford

a limit or level at which you stop doing something

cut-off date/point/score etc (= the date etc when you stop doing something)

The cut-off date for registration is July 2.

  • ✅ cut-off date / cut-off point / cut-off time
  • ✅ 意味は「ここで受付を止める線」=at which you stop doing something。

schedule|Cambridge(B2)— a list of planned activities or things to be done showing the times or dates when they are intended to happen or be done

schedule|Oxford — a plan that lists all the work that you have to do and when you must do each thing

on schedule(B2)not early or late予定どおり
fall behind scheduleto do less work than you planned to do by a particular point in time遅れている
according to scheduleas planned(Oxford の注釈)計画どおりに

on schedule の語義が not early or late =「早くも遅くもない」。

Oxford

The project will be completed on schedule this summer.

The tunnel project has already fallen behind schedule.

We’re working to a tight schedule (= we have a lot of things to do in a short time).

  • Cambridge=a plan that shows how long something will take or when things will happen(計画としての語義あり)
  • Longman=a plan for when things will happen or how long you think something will take(計画としての語義あり・第一義)
  • Oxford=a horizontal line that is used to represent time / SNSのタイムライン(計画の語義なし。

Longman — The timeline for the project is optimistic.

Cambridge — They have not yet set a timeline for when the troops will be withdrawn.

Cambridge — The new plan will need a revised timeline.

Cambridge — We need some kind of timeline for when you want this finished.

set a timeline(決める)、a revised timeline(見直した)という動詞・形容詞も辞書に出ています。

deadline(守るべき点)と lead time(かかる長さ)を両方書いて、相手が確認しやすい形にしています。

Subject: Delivery date for the revised report

Dear Ms Carter,

Thank you for confirming the order this morning.

I am writing to set out the delivery date for the revised report.

Our normal lead time from order confirmation to dispatch is two weeks. Counting from today, the delivery date would be Friday 3 October.

I have set the deadline for the internal review on Wednesday 1 October, so that we have two working days to deal with any last-minute changes.

If the 3 October delivery date does not work on your side, please let me know by Friday this week and I will look at what we can move.

Kind regards,

Kenji Sato
Production Planning

lead time を from order confirmation to dispatch と書いているところが要点です。

Subject: Lead time and delivery date for order 4471

Dear Mr Alvarez,

I hope you are well.

We are preparing the schedule for the next quarter and I need two figures from you.

First, what is your current lead time from the date we place the order to the date the goods leave your warehouse?

Second, if we place the order on Monday 6 October, what delivery date can you confirm?

We are working to a tight deadline on our side, so an early reply would help us a great deal.

Best regards,

Kenji Sato
Production Planning

First で lead time(長さ)、Second で delivery date(日付)を聞き分けています。

We hit delays and asked to extend the deadline.

Subject: Request to extend the deadline for the site survey

Dear Ms Carter,

I am writing about the site survey that is due next Friday.

We have hit delays with the access permits and the work has fallen behind schedule by about four working days.

I would like to ask you to extend the deadline to Wednesday 15 October. Everything else in the schedule stays as agreed, and the final delivery date for the full report does not change.

If a later deadline is not possible, we can send you a partial report on the original date and the remaining sections the following week. Please let me know which you would prefer.

I am sorry for the short notice.

Kind regards,

Kenji Sato
Production Planning

extend the deadline to + 日付 が中心です。Longman の語義 make the date or time later than it was before がそのまま起きています。

  • is due next Friday=Oxford の My essay’s due next Friday と同じ形。
  • has fallen behind schedule=Cambridge の fall behind schedule。
  • extend the deadline=Longman の extend a deadline。
  • the final delivery date=Cambridge Business の delivery date。

ただし deadline の語義は a time or day by which something must be done =「何かが済んでいなければならない時点」です。 the deadline for the first draft のように for を足してください。

納期をshort/longのどちらで形容しますか

  • lead time=long lead times(Longman Business の例文)。
  • turnaround time=very fast turnaround times(Oxford)/shorten turnaround times(Longman)。
  • deadline=tight / strict(Longman・Cambridge)。

The average turnaround for a passport application is six working days.、Oxford の delivery の例文が Allow 28 days for delivery.

They have not yet set a timeline for when the troops will be withdrawn.

The countries have yet to set the schedule for the next round of talks.

have not yet set / have yet to set =「まだ決めていない」。We have not yet set a delivery date.

Cambridge は in due course を B2・formal として at a suitable time in the future =「将来の適当な時期に」と書いています。 You will receive notification of the results in due course.

  • 作業を終える点=deadline(a point in time by which something must be done)。動詞は meet / miss / set / extend
  • 支払い・提出の点=due date(especially the payment of a bill)。
  • 注文から受け取りまでの長さ=lead time(the time between placing an order and the item being delivered)。from 〜 to 〜 を必ず添える
  • モノが着く点=delivery date(the date on which goods that have been bought will arrive at a place)
  • 受けてから返すまでの長さ=turnaround time(the time it takes to receive something, deal with it and send it back)
  • 受付を止める点=cut-off date / point / time(a limit or level at which you stop doing something)
  • 全体の進み具合=on schedule / ahead of schedule / behind schedule
  • ⛔ 使わない=ETA(乗り物の到着見込み)・小文字の eta(ギリシャ文字)・単独の cut-off(Oxford では服)

The report is due next Friday.、納期を聞くなら What is your lead time from order to delivery?。
