Thank you for your email.
- Please revert.
| ③保留する | 今は答えられないと明言し、期日を置く | get back to / look into |
I will … by Friday. |
Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries は reply と respond の項に、同じ「Which Word?」
Answer and reply are the most common verbs used for speaking or writing as a reaction to a question, letter, etc.
Note that you answer a person, question or letter, not answer to them, but you reply to somebody or something
I will answer to your question. I will answer your question. か I will reply to your question.
「Which Word?」
Respond is less common and more formal
(I will answer your three questions below.) |
| reply | Cambridge はB1で「to answer」。 (Thank you for your reply./Sorry for the late reply.) |
(We will respond within two business days.) |
| get back to | Cambridge
to tell someone, usually in a letter or email, that you have received something they sent you
All applications will be acknowledged.
Please acknowledge receipt of this letter.
acknowledge receipt of …
the act or state of receiving money or goods
だから a を付けず、acknowledge receipt of …
Longman も同じ語義を formal として立て、on receipt of … と in receipt of …
The customer acknowledged receipt of a shipment.
Subject: Re: Draft contract for the Osaka warehouse Dear Ms. Bennett, Thank you for your email. I acknowledge receipt of the draft contract and the two annexes. I have not reviewed the documents yet. Our legal team will read them this week. I will get back to you with our comments by Friday, 25 September. Kind regards, Taro Yamada Operations, Marubishi Logistics
I have not reviewed the documents yet.
to make an arrangement or meeting certain, often by phone or writing
Oxford
Please write to confirm your reservation
Subject: Re: Three questions about the Standard plan Dear Ms. Bennett, Thank you for your questions. I will answer them in the same order below. 1. Single sign-on. Yes, the Standard plan supports it. We have used it with Microsoft Entra ID since March. 2. Number of seats. We need 52 seats from 1 October, not 50. I can confirm that figure now. 3. Trial account. We would like one, and we can start the trial on 22 September. Could you confirm the start date once the trial account is ready? Kind regards, Taro Yamada Operations, Marubishi Logistics
I can confirm that figure now. Could you confirm the start date …?
Lead with what’s most important. Front-load keywords for scanning. Make customer choices and next steps obvious.
Cambridge は get back to someone をC1の句動詞として立て、こう定義しています。
to talk to someone again, usually on the phone, in order to give them some information or because you were not able to speak to them before
get back to you
I’ll get back to you later with those figures.
I’ll look into it and get back to you.
Hold off making your decision until Monday.
つまり Please hold off …
Subject: Re: Pricing for 52 seats from 1 October Dear Ms. Bennett, Thank you for your email. I do not have an answer for you yet. The seat count has to be signed off by our finance team, and the person in charge is away until Monday, 22 September. I will look into it and get back to you with a firm number by Wednesday, 24 September. If you need a provisional figure before then, please tell me and I will send our current estimate. Kind regards, Taro Yamada Operations, Marubishi Logistics
I do not have an answer for you yet.
I invited him to the meeting but he declined.
They declined to tell me how they had obtained my address.
一方 appreciate は、Cambridge が「I/we appreciate …」
Subject: Re: Invitation to speak at the logistics forum on 14 November Dear Ms. Bennett, Thank you for the invitation. We appreciate that you thought of us for the forum. Unfortunately, I have to decline. Our Osaka warehouse goes live on 10 November, and I will be on site for the whole of that week. I would be glad to take part next year if the forum runs again. If it is useful, my colleague Kenji Sato works on the same topic and is free that week. I can introduce you by email today. Kind regards, Taro Yamada Operations, Marubishi Logistics
(We appreciate …)
(Unfortunately, I have to decline.
Trains may be subject to delay – we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
だから Apologies for the delay.
Use sorry (and similar wording) only in error messages that notify the customer about a serious problem or one that they might find very frustrating
3日返信が遅れただけなら Apologies for the delay. I am so sorry.
Subject: Re: Draft contract for the Osaka warehouse Dear Ms. Bennett, Apologies for the delay in replying. Our legal team has now finished reading the draft contract. We have two comments, both on Annex B. First, clause 4.2 sets the notice period at 30 days. We need 60 days, because our warehouse contracts run on a 60-day cycle. Second, the delivery window in clause 6.1 is stated in local time. Could we state it in UTC instead? Everything else is acceptable to us. If you agree with these two points, we can sign this week. Kind regards, Taro Yamada Operations, Marubishi Logistics
We aim to respond to all enquiries within five working days.(Cambridge)
We try to respond to complaints within 48 hours.(Oxford)
We are committed to responding to all customer complaints within 10 days.(Longman Business)
Be brief, be bold, be clear
|---|---|---|
| 日付まで決められる | I will get back to you by Friday, 25 September. | Cambridge の get back to=情報を持って再連絡する |
| 日数でしか言えない | I will respond within three working days.
| 相手の返答を待つ | Could you confirm the date by Wednesday?
| 何も動きが無いと分かっている | I will write again on 1 October, even if there is no news.
| 相手に選ばせたい | If you would prefer a call, I am free on Tuesday afternoon. | Microsoft「Make customer choices and next steps obvious」 |
even if there is no news
Subject: Re: Invoice 2026-0914 attached Dear Ms. Bennett, Thank you for your email. I acknowledge receipt of invoice 2026-0914. The invoice has gone to our accounts team today. Payment is scheduled for 30 September. I will write again on 1 October to confirm that the transfer has been made, even if there is no news before then. Kind regards, Taro Yamada Operations, Marubishi Logistics
用例も Please revert by email.
Please reply.
事故② Please note that …
There’s usually no need to say ‘please’ or ‘please note’.
Please note that the deadline is 30 September. は、The deadline is 30 September.
事故③ can’t・don’t で書く
GOV.UK のスタイルガイドには contractions(短縮形)の項もあります。
Avoid negative contractions like can’t and don’t. Many users find them harder to read, or misread them as the opposite of what they say. Use cannot, instead of can’t.
We can’t accept … ではなく We cannot accept …
事故④ answer to your question と書く
Oxford の「Which Word?」
名詞のほうは in answer to と in reply to の両方が使えます。
answer the door と answer the phone は、reply では言い換えられません。
|---|---|---|
| 書類を受け取った(未読) | I acknowledge receipt of the draft contract.
| 受け取って内容も確認した | Thank you for the draft contract. I have read it.
| 予定を確定させたい | I can confirm the meeting on 24 September at 10:00 JST.
| 質問に順番に答える | I will answer your three questions in the same order below. | Oxford=answer は目的語を直接とる |
| 今は答えが無い | I do not have an answer for you yet. Microsoft「Lead with what’s most important」 |
| 調べてから連絡する | I will look into it and get back to you by Thursday. | Cambridge get back to=情報を持って再連絡する |
| 断る | Unfortunately, I have to decline. | Cambridge decline=formal な refuse/unfortunately=残念さの提示 |
| 返信が遅れた | Apologies for the delay in replying.
| 相手に返信をうながす | Could you reply by Friday, 25 September? | Oxford=reply は to/期日は数字で置く |
answer to your question
- get back to は「答えを持って戻る」約束です。
