contract、agreement、deal、terms。
Oxford の語義は an official written agreement、Longman Business の語義は LAW a formal written agreement between two or more people or groups which says what each must do for the other, or must not do です
Cambridge Business は2つの語義を立てていて、2つめが a good, or lower than usual, price です
Cambridge の語義は the conditions that control an agreement, arrangement, or activity で、品詞は複数形の phrase です
A deal is a formal business agreement that usually involves the sale of something です
HUMAN RESOURCES to remove someone from their job、Cambridge の語義は to stop employing an employee です
- ⛔ put a contract out on someone Longman の語義3は an agreement to kill a person for money で、informal のラベルが付いています
A contract is a written legal document with all the details of a job or business arrangement, for example what someone must do and how much they will be paid
A deal is a formal business agreement that usually involves the sale of something
A verbal agreement is one in which someone says that they agree to something or says they will do something, but does not sign an official written promise
An unwritten agreement is one that everyone knows about although it is not official
contract には written legal document と書いてあり、verbal agreement には does not sign an official written promise と書いてあります。
A pact is a formal written agreement between two or more countries or organizations
A compromise is an agreement that is achieved after everyone involved accepts less than what they originally wanted
Cambridge(B1)— a legal document that states and explains a formal agreement between two different people or groups, or the agreement itself
Oxford — an official written agreement
Longman — an official agreement between two or more people, stating what each will do
Longman Business — LAW a formal written agreement between two or more people or groups which says what each must do for the other, or must not do
Cambridge
Cambridge Business — LAW a formal agreement between two people or companies, or a legal document that explains the details of this agreement
|---|---|---|
| be under contract | to have formally agreed to work for a company or person on a stated job for a stated period of time | Cambridge |
| under contract to somebody | = has a contract to work for | Oxford |
| out of contract | his contract with his club will have finished | Oxford |
| subject to contract | the agreement is not official until the contract is signed | Oxford |
| a contract worker | one employed on a contract for a fixed period of time | Oxford |
| breach of contract | not doing what they agreed to do in a contract | Oxford |
| put sth out to contract | they allow different companies to compete to provide a service or do a job for them | Cambridge Business |
Oxford は括弧の中で the agreement is not official until the contract is signed と説明しています。
They backed out of the deal the day before they were due to sign the contract.
As it cooled, the metal contracted.
He contracted malaria while he was travelling.
語義は to make a legal agreement with someone to do work or to have work done for you
Cambridge
agreement(SAME OPINION・B2)— the situation in which people have the same opinion, or in which they approve of or accept something
agreement(B2)— a decision or arrangement, often formal and written, between two or more groups or people
often formal and written
a formal / legal / binding agreement
a verbal /written/ unwritten agreement
|---|---|
| a verbal agreement | agreed in words, but not written down |
| a binding agreement | an official agreement that must be obeyed |
| a gentleman’s agreement | an agreement that is not written down, and is based only on trust |
| enter into an agreement(formal) | make an official agreement, which has legal responsibilities |
| go back on an agreement / renege on an agreement(formal) | not do what you agreed to do |
| keep / honour an agreement | do what you have agreed |
| broker an agreement | arrange an agreement between two or more opposing groups |
| draft an agreement | write the conditions of an agreement, which may be changed |
| a draft agreement | one that is not yet in its finished form |
| an agreement breaks down | it stops working |
この表で効くのは enter into an agreement です。
Oxford — an arrangement, a promise or a contract made with somebody
arrangement(段取り)、promise(約束)、contract(契約書)が全部入っています。
Oxford
They had made a verbal agreement to sell.
Longman — an official document that people sign to show that they have agreed to something
Oxford も同じことを括弧で書いています=The agreement (= the document recording the agreement) was signed。だから Please read the agreement and sign it.
- non-disclosure agreement(Cambridge Business と Longman Business の両方の一覧にあり)
- gentleman’s agreement(両方にあり)
- collective agreement/labor agreement(労使側)
- heads of agreement/framework agreement(枠組み側)
- purchase agreement/sales agreement/service agreement(売買と役務)
- trade agreement/fair trade agreement/voluntary restraint agreement(通商)
- memorandum of agreement(Longman Business の一覧にあり)
Compare — arrangement / contract / deal noun / deed
Cambridge(B2)— an agreement or an arrangement, especially in business
Oxford — an agreement, especially in business, on particular conditions for buying or doing something
Longman — an agreement or arrangement, especially in business or politics, that helps both sides involved
Longman だけ、that helps both sides involved と足しています。
Oxford は on particular conditions for buying or doing something と書いていて、条件と買うことに寄せています。Longman Business も同じ向きで、especially one that involves the sale of something です。
Cambridge Business — a good, or lower than usual, price
Longman Business — an offer of a product at a lower price than usual, available only for a limited time
a good deal on She got a good deal (= paid a low price) on her new house.
I got a good deal on the car (= bought it cheaply).
We got a good deal
- a raw deal / a rough deal=Longman は unfair treatment、Cambridge は being unfairly treated と説明
- a better deal for nurses=Longman の例文。
- a done deal=Cambridge Business は an agreement or arrangement that has been made and is now certain to happen
- The deal fell through=Oxford は no agreement was reached と括弧で説明
- seal the deal=Oxford は conclude it と括弧で説明
Cambridge(B2)— the conditions that control an agreement, arrangement, or activity
Oxford — the conditions that people offer, demand or accept when they make an agreement, an arrangement or a contract
Longman — the conditions that are set for an agreement, contract, arrangement etc
だから under the terms of という形が決まり文句になります。
Under the terms of their contract, employees must give three months’ notice if they leave.
Oxford — conditions that you agree to when you buy, sell, or pay for something; a price or cost
Longman — the arrangements for payment that you agree to when you buy or sell something
Longman はこの語義に on easy terms という形を付けていて、括弧で by paying small sums of money over a long period と説明しています。Oxford も on easy terms に paying for it over a long period です。
Oxford の3つめは a way of expressing yourself or of saying something=言い回しです。I’ll try to explain in simple terms.
Cambridge — If two people are on good/bad/friendly terms, they have a good/bad/friendly relationship with one another
on good terms with は「仲がよい」です。
on somebody’s (own) terms (= according to the conditions that someone wants)
| terms | the conditions that…(3冊とも conditions で始まる) | 取り決めの中に書いてある条件 | 合意の中身の1項目について話す |
Oxford の語義が an arrangement, a promise or a contract made with somebody である以上、contract も deal も agreement の中に収まります。
契約を結ぶ英語|sign・enter into・draw up の分担
|---|---|---|
| draw up a contract | Cambridge
| draft an agreement | Longman=write the conditions of an agreement, which may be changed | まだ変わる前提の草案 |
| negotiate a contract | Longman=agree the conditions of a contract with someone | 条件を詰める段階 |
| enter into a contract / an agreement | Longman は formal のラベル付きで which has legal responsibilities | 正式に結ぶ段階 |
| sign a contract | Cambridge は sign/enter into a contract を1つの形として立てている | 署名する段階 |
| finalize an agreement | Longman=agree the last part | 最後の詰め |
| seal the deal | Oxford=conclude it | まとめきる |
Cambridge(B1)— to write your name, usually on a written or printed document, to show that you agree with its contents or have written or created it yourself
to show that you agree with its contents=中身に同意していることを示すために、と書いてあります。
to sign a letter / cheque / contract / lease / agreement
Don’t sign anything until you’ve read the small print.
renew(Oxford)— to make something legally acceptable for a further period of time
extend(Oxford)— to make something last longer
Longman Business — to arrange for an existing contract, agreement, deal etc to continue
- Cambridge(B2)=to increase the life of or replace something old。 Every year I renew my membership of the sports club.
- Cambridge の例文=There was an ominous silence when I asked whether my contract was going to be renewed.
- Oxford の共起=to renew a licence/lease/subscription/contract
- Longman の共起=renew somebody’s contract(括弧で give someone another contract when their old one ends)
- Longman Business の例文=The original contract had a term of three years, with an option to renew for two more.
give someone another contract when their old one ends=古いほうが終わったときに新しいほうを渡す。
Contracts were gradually extended from the initial single year.
The repayment period will be extended from 20 years to 25 years.
extend は from A to B の形を取ります。
to renew/extend/terminate/cancel a contract
Cambridge | Oxford | Longman |
|---|---|---|---|
| terminate | formal/[ I or T ] | (formal)/[intransitive, transitive] | formal/[ intransitive, transitive ] |
| expire | C2/[ I ] | [intransitive] | verb [ intransitive ] |
Cambridge(C2)— If something that lasts for a fixed length of time expires, it comes to an end or stops being in use
Oxford — (of a document, an agreement, etc.) to be no longer legally acceptable because the period of time for which it could be used has ended
Longman Business — LAW if an official document such as a contract, agreement, or licence expires, the period of time during which it can be used ends
Oxford は synonym run out と書いていて、Longman も SYN run out です。
Cambridge — [ I or T ] to (cause something to) end or stop:They terminated my contract in October.
Oxford — The agreement was lawfully terminated under clause 34.
They terminated my contract in October.
Cambridge — [ T ] to stop employing an employee:In most occupations, poorly performing workers can be terminated.
Longman Business — [ transitive ] HUMAN RESOURCES to remove someone from their job:The company has terminated several managers.
terminate the agreement なら、Oxford の例文 The agreement was terminated immediately.
Longman — [ intransitive ] if a train, bus, or ship terminates at a particular place, its journey ends there
This train will terminate at the next stop – passengers who wish to continue should change trains.
Cambridge — an act of breaking a law, promise, agreement, or relationship
Oxford(formal)— a failure to do something that must be done by law
Longman — an action that breaks a law, rule, or agreement
Cambridge と Longman は an act / an action=行為と書き、Oxford は a failure to do something=しなかったこと、です。
- Cambridge=breach of contract:He was sued for breach of contract.
- Oxford=a breach of contract/copyright/warranty(括弧で not doing what they agreed to do in a contract)
- Longman=They sued the company for breach of contract.(括弧で an action that your contract does not allow)
- be in breach of=Cambridge は formal のラベル付きで to be breaking a particular law or rule
- Longman Business(動詞)=LAW if someone breaches an agreement, rule, law etc, they break it
Cambridge も Longman も for breach of contract と、a を入れずに書いています。
Oxford は a breach of confidence/trust、a breach of security、data breach を別の語義として立てています。
Longman — a serious disagreement between people, groups, or countries:What had caused the sudden breach between Henry and his son?
breach between A and B と between が続いたら、この語義です。breach of なら違反、breach between なら決裂。
Cambridge(law)— a particular part of a written legal document, for example a law passed by Parliament or a contract
Oxford — an item in a legal document that says that a particular thing must or must not be done
Longman Business — LAW COMMERCE a part of a written law, contract, or legal document that deals with a particular item or subject
3冊とも a part / an item=部分、です。 Oxford の例文 the requirements set out in clauses 174 to 176、Cambridge の Clause 4 of the constitution、Longman Business の Clause 12 enables…
|---|---|
| penalty clause | Cambridge(Official documents の一覧)/Longman Business |
| confidentiality clause | Oxford(例として提示)/Longman Business |
| escape clause | Oxford/Longman Business |
| break clause | Longman Business |
| get-out clause | Longman Business |
| grandfather clause | Oxford/Longman Business |
| release clause | Oxford(He had a release clause written into his contract.) |
Cambridge は B2 のラベルを付けて a group of words, consisting of a subject and a finite form of a verb です。
Cambridge
契約の英語の事故①put a contract out on someone
Longman(informal・語義3)— an agreement to kill a person for money:They put a contract out on him and he’s in hiding.
put a contract out on + 人 という形になったら、仕事の契約ではありません。
- contract something out=Cambridge The university contracts out the cleaning to a private company.
- put sth out to contract=Cambridge Business。語義は they allow different companies to compete to provide a service or do a job for them
- put out to contract=Longman Business の contract の例にも All cargo-handling services are now put out to contract(括弧で companies compete to win the work)
out on someone なら物騒な語義、out to contract なら入札の話です。
Cambridge の to stop employing an employee と、Longman Business の HUMAN RESOURCES to remove someone from their job。
書くなら terminate the contract、terminate the agreement です。
Oxford の例文 Either party can terminate the contract at any time.
契約の英語の事故③We got a good deal と書く
a good deal on
Longman の共起表現には reasonable/favourable/cheaper terms が並んでいます。
Some insurance companies offer very reasonable terms.
Subject: Clarification on two terms before we sign Dear Ms Alvarez, Thank you for sending the draft agreement yesterday. We are happy with the overall arrangement, and we would like to move to signature this week. Before we do, I would like to clarify two points in the draft. First, the clause on delivery. Under the terms of the draft, delivery is due within thirty days of the order. Could you confirm whether that period starts from the order date or from the date we confirm stock? Second, the renewal. The draft states an initial period of one year. Is there an option to renew for a further year, and if so, by what date would we need to give notice? Once these two points are settled, we are ready to enter into the agreement. I have copied our operations lead, Daniel Okafor, who will handle delivery on our side. Thank you for your help. Kind regards, Mei Tanaka Procurement Harbourline Supplies
|---|---|
| the draft agreement | Longman の a draft agreement=one that is not yet in its finished form |
| Under the terms of the draft | Cambridge の under the terms of=the conditions that control an agreement |
| the clause on delivery | Oxford の an item in a legal document that says that a particular thing must or must not be done |
| an option to renew | Longman Business の with an option to renew for two more |
| enter into the agreement | Longman の enter into an agreement(formal・which has legal responsibilities) |
| move to signature | Cambridge の sign=to write your name… to show that you agree with its contents |
The offer has been accepted, subject to contract
Subject: Notice regarding the service contract expiring in March Dear Mr Bianchi, I am writing about the service contract between our two companies, which expires on 31 March. After reviewing our requirements for the coming year, we have decided not to renew the contract when the current term ends. This is not a reflection of the service your team has provided, which has been reliable throughout. Our requirements have simply changed, and we are bringing this work in house from April. Under the terms of the contract, we are required to give sixty days' notice. Please treat this message as that notice. We will of course meet all our obligations until the contract expires, and we will settle the final invoice on the usual schedule. I would be glad to arrange a short call to agree the handover steps. Thank you for the work your team has done over the past three years. Kind regards, Mei Tanaka Procurement Harbourline Supplies
expires on 31 March と which expires の2か所とも、主語は the contract です。
Longman の renew somebody’s contract に付いた説明が give someone another contract when their old one ends である以上、not to renew は「次の紙を出さない」です。
terminate は Cambridge が to (cause something to) end or stop と書いているとおり、期限前でも打ち切れる語です。
|---|---|---|
| NDA(大文字の略語) | 0件 | ― |
| non-disclosure agreement | 2件 | Cambridge の agreement/Longman の agreement |
| MOU(大文字の略語) | 0件 | ― |
| memorandum of understanding | 0件 | ― |
| memorandum of agreement | 1件 | Longman Business の agreement |
| confidentiality agreement | 2件 | Cambridge の terms/Oxford の agreement |
| heads of agreement | 3件 | Cambridge と Longman の agreement |
| letter of intent | 0件 | ― |
Oxford(agreement の例文)— The documents are covered by a confidentiality agreement.
Cambridge(terms の例文)— They are claiming that he broke the terms of a confidentiality agreement that he signed with the couple.
|---|---|---|
| まだ紙になっていない合意 | agreement / verbal agreement | Longman=does not sign an official written promise |
| 紙になった取り決め | contract | Oxford=an official written agreement |
| 商談としてまとまった | deal / a done deal | Cambridge Business=made and is now certain to happen |
| 合意の中の条件 | the terms | Cambridge=the conditions that control an agreement |
| その中の1条 | the clause on ~ | Oxford=an item in a legal document |
| 文面を作る | draw up a contract / draft an agreement | Cambridge=writing/Longman=which may be changed |
| 条件を詰める | negotiate a contract | Longman=agree the conditions with someone |
| 正式に結ぶ | enter into an agreement | Longman=which has legal responsibilities |
| 署名する | sign the contract | Cambridge=to show that you agree with its contents |
| 合意はしたが署名前 | subject to contract | Oxford=not official until the contract is signed |
| 次の期間も続ける | renew the contract | Longman=give someone another contract when their old one ends |
| 今の期間を伸ばす | extend the contract | Oxford=to make something last longer |
| 期限が来て終わる | the contract expires | 3冊とも自動詞のみ/SYN run out |
| こちらから打ち切る | terminate the contract | Cambridge=to (cause something to) end or stop |
| 相手が守らなかった | a breach of contract / be in breach of | Oxford=a failure to do something that must be done by law |
| 業務を外に出す | contract something out / put sth out to contract | Cambridge Business=companies compete to provide a service |
| 安く買えた | a good deal on ~ | Cambridge=paid a low price/Oxford=bought it cheaply |
Cambridge の contract は a legal document、Longman の agreement の語義4は an official document that people sign to show that they have agreed to something です。
Oxford は contract の共起表現として to renew/extend/terminate/cancel a contract を1行に並べています。
These are the terms and conditions of your employment.
Terms and conditions may apply.
informal が付くのは、cut a deal や make a deal のような一部の形です。
He is trying to cut a deal (= make one) with the rebels.
Cambridge は be in breach of something に formal のラベルを付けています。
- agreement=often formal and written どまり。
- deal=especially in business。 ただし a good deal on は値段の話
- terms=the conditions that…。
