customer、client、consumer、guest、patron。
語義は a person who buys goods or a service。
Oxford の語義は a person who uses the services or advice of a professional person or organization。
Longman Business の語義は a person who buys goods, products, and services for their own use, not for business use or to resell。
Longman Business は guest に someone who is paying to stay in a hotel の語義だけを立てています
Mrs Wilson is one of our regular customers.、Longman に My business quickly built up a base of regular customers.
Cambridge Business の語義は a person or an organization that buys a product or service で、organization が明記されています
Longman Business の2つ目が someone who buys something from a seller。
customer — a person who buys goods or a service
client — someone who receives professional services from an organization
|---|---|---|---|
| customer | buys goods or a service(Cambridge) | A2 | 買う人・買う組織 |
| consumer | buys … for their own use(Cambridge) | B2 | 自分で使う人 |
| guest | paying to stay in a hotel(Longman Business) | A2 | 泊まる人・招かれた人 |
- Cambridge(A2)=a person who buys goods or a service
- Oxford=a person or an organization that buys goods or services from a shop or business
- Longman=someone who buys goods or services from a shop, company etc
- Longman Business=a person or organization that buys goods or services from a shop or company
|---|---|---|
| regular customers | Mrs Wilson is one of our regular customers. | Cambridge |
| loyal customers | The company rewards loyal customers | Oxford |
| potential customers | marketing strategies to target potential customers | Oxford |
| satisfied customer | There goes another satisfied customer! | Cambridge |
| customer complaints | the customer complaints | Longman Business |
Cambridge Business
The company’s simple strategy is to focus on the customer.
the customer is always right — used to emphasize that, in business, it is very important not to disagree with a customer or make them angry
- Cambridge=a person who receives services, esp. from a lawyer or other person who gives advice
- Oxford=a person who uses the services or advice of a professional person or organization
- Longman=someone who gets services or advice from a professional person, company, or organization
- Longman Business=someone who pays for services or advice from a professional person or organization
Mr Black has been a client of this law firm for many years.
She’s a well-known lawyer with many famous clients.
Longman Business
Mr Black has been a client of this law firm for many years. | Cambridge |
Defence lawyer Ronald Cole said his client was suffering from deep depression. | Longman Business |
It is one of the stockbroking firm’s biggest corporate clients | Longman Business |
He’s a sports agent and has a lot of basketball players as clients. | Cambridge |
The restaurant’s lunchtime clients are mostly businesspeople. | Cambridge Business |
5つ目だけが飲食店で、Cambridge Business は client に a customer who buys goods or services from a store, restaurant, etc.
Longman Business にも someone who buys something from a seller があります。
client — a computer that is connected to a server from which it gets information
Please type this address into your email client.
consumer — a person who buys goods, products, and services for their own use, not for business use or to resell
Longman Business
この記事で調べた5語のうち、not for business use or to resell と除外条件まで書いたのはここだけです。
Cambridge
consumer — a person who buys goods or services for their own use
for their own use=自分で使うために、が3冊すべてに共通して入っています。
- consumer rights / advice(消費者の権利・助言)
- consumer goods / spending(消費財・消費支出)
- The new rates will affect all consumers, including businesses.(料金改定が消費者に及ぶ)
- an increase in consumer demand(消費需要の増加/Oxford)
Cambridge にはもう1つ、エネルギーの語義もあります(a person, organization, country, etc., that uses something, especially fuel, energy)。
The United States is currently the world’s largest consumer of energy.
guest — someone who is paying to stay in a hotel
The hotel still prepares guests’ bills by hand.
guest — a customer in a restaurant
Restaurant guests can enjoy superb views across the bay as they dine.
|---|---|---|
| ホテルの宿泊客 | a person who is staying in a hotel | Cambridge(A2)・Oxford・Longman |
| レストランの客 | a customer in a restaurant | Oxford のみ |
| 会員制の施設の一時利用者 | a person who is not a member of something such as a club or website, but is allowed to use it | Cambridge |
If you are someone’s guest, that person is paying for you | Cambridge Business |
| 番組・イベントの出演者 | a person, such as an entertainer, who has been invited to appear(B2) | Cambridge |
Cambridge の例文に click here to continue as a guest が載っています。
patron — a person or group that supports an activity or organization, especially by giving money
Cambridge
Oxford
patron — a person who gives money and support to artists and writers
Frederick the Great was the patron of many artists.
The car park is for the use of patrons only.
Will patrons kindly note that this restaurant will be closed on 17 July.
Longman Business
Regular patrons comprise 65 percent of the restaurant’s customers.
Subject: Company profile for your review — Marubishi Trading Dear Ms Carter, Thank you for asking about our track record. We supply 1,200 corporate customers in twelve countries. About 65 percent of them are regular customers who have ordered from us for more than three years. I have attached our company profile, which lists the industries we serve. Please tell me if you need references from customers in your own industry. Best regards, Kenji Sato Overseas Sales, Marubishi Trading
Subject: Your request for a 5% discount — our answer Dear Mr Silva, Thank you for your patience while I checked this with our pricing team. We are not able to offer a 5% discount on the current order. The reason is that the unit price already reflects the volume you have ordered. What we can do is hold this price until the end of the financial year, so that your next order is not affected by the March increase. If that helps, I will put it in writing today. Best regards, Kenji Sato Overseas Sales, Marubishi Trading
Subject: Handover — three clients moving to your list Hi Aya, From 1 October, three clients on my list will move to yours. They are all professional services accounts, so the work is mostly advice rather than shipments. I have put the contract dates and the open questions in the shared folder. Could we spend thirty minutes on Friday going through them? Thanks, Kenji
Longman Business の語義 someone who pays for services or advice from a professional person に当たる相手だからです。

Longman Business は consumer を not for business use or to resell と定義しています。
Oxford は語義に a person or an organization that buys、Longman Business も a person or organization です。
Oxford だけが a customer in a restaurant を認めています。
The company’s simple strategy is to focus on the customer.
- 物やサービスを買う人=customer(Cambridge A2/法人も organization として語義に入る)
- 専門職の助言を受ける人=client(3冊とも語義に professional と advice/B2)
- 自分で使うために買う人=consumer(Longman Business が not for business use or to resell と明記/B2)
- 泊まる人・招かれた人=guest(Longman Business は宿泊客の語義だけ/A2)
- 常客・支援者=patron(Cambridge も Oxford も1番目は支援者/掲示文の語)
